Glock 34 02/18/2011

Purchased a Glock 34 from Frontiersman.  Was technically used as it had been purchased from them then exchanged for credit, but had never been fired.  I had no issues at all with saving $120-ish bucks.

Also purchased 4 boxes of PMC 9mm, some 9mm cleaning patches, and 9mm bore brush.

Range Day 02/12/2011

Hit the range with some friends, so was a bit off my normal focused routine.  Fired about 300 rounds through the ISSC M22 and 100 or so through the Ruger 10/22.

The Remington Thunderbolt appears to shoot through the M22 in much the same manner as CCI Blazer - which is to say maybe 3 failures to feed or eject out of each 5 magazines (50 rounds).  Acceptable if I decided to keep cost down, but it's really nice to have no issues at all with the CCI Mini Mag.

Gander Mountain had the CCI Mini-Mag on sale, so I decided to stop by and get a few more packs.  I also needed to get some generic 22LR for the 10/22.  I ended up walking out with a box of Remmington Thunderbolt.  I didn't recall how they did in the M22 tests before, but they appeared most similar to the CCI Blazer I really like, down to appearing to have a bit of a coating on the bullet.

Stopped by Gander Mountain on the way home and picked up a few packs of CCI Mini-Mag and a few 12pks of B-2 paper targets for pistol shooting practice.  And perhaps some friendly competition with the gang.

Range Day 02/05/2011

Fired maybe 150 rounds through the Ruger 10/22 with the Red Field 2-7x33 Scope.  Very nice scope, zeroed in with just a handful of bulls.

No complaints at all about the scope, but I have to admit that firing the 10/22 through a scope just didn't trip my trigger.  Hence the low number of rounds fired through the combo.  I may not yank the scope off right away, but I figure it will find a new home in something like a CZ 453 Varmint rather than staying where it is.

Now the awesome news.  I had a ball putting about 450 rounds through the M22.  This was the first outing after receiving the slide back from ISSC with the replaced firing pin and safety mechanism.  It fired CCI Mini-Mag like a champ and even fired CCI Blazer passably well.  Needless to say, no more light strikes from either ammo.

The M22 will start to act up a bit after it starts to get dirty.  An ISSC video suggests after two or three hundred rounds.  I'd go more like every 150 rounds, but wear over time will likely increase that number.  I think a big issue is the close tolerances of the chamber.

The whole session was spent on the rifle range, so minimum target range was 51 feet.  Firing the pistol at that range sure reduced the impressiveness of my groupings, but it also started a trend towards longer and longer ranges.  The crowning achievement of the day was firing 50 rounds at a BT-5/R2 silhouette at 46 yards.  45 hit paper, 43 fell within the silhouette, and 8 landed within the roughly 4x6 inch bull.  Wow!  I would really like to scan and post the target, but it would take multiple scans and be a real bear.

Shooting journal for an old dog learning new tricks.

This blog is a personal shooting journal.  Those who stumble across this odd corner of the internet are certainly welcome, but no complaints if it isn't particularly entertaining.
